For parents who have a child with Cerebral Palsy, financial aid is available through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program, or TANF. The program initially designed to move families from welfare to work, has stipulations that support families with children who have disabilities.
TANF is a block grant program instituted July 1, 1997. It is a by-product of the welfare-to-work laws and replaced Aid to Families with Dependent Children, or ADFC. Its main objective is to help families who meet low-income guidelines get back to work by providing temporary financial support, job training and other related services. However, the program also includes stipulations to help families who have a disabled child with temporary cash relief.
