Our organization is based upon a simple premise: make information easy to access for parents of children with Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately there are far too many gaps in how information is made available to the public when it comes to the various charities, federal organizations, local programs and more that can help those with CP. This is where MyChild has found its purpose: providing free access to a wide range of information and program access related to helping make a difference when it comes to Cerebral Palsy.
First and foremost, we want parents to understand we welcome them to call us (800-692-4453) each and every time they encounter a new challenge in their child’s lives. We like to tell parents we intend to be partners in their child’s success story as long as they keep calling us; given the fact our services are provided for free, this statement serves as a mantra of our interest in helping.
With that said, how can we help? Our assistance comes in three different ways:
- Kits – Based upon various different milestones, stages, challenges or dense informational topics, our kits aim to make information available while also helping with understanding. Available upon request, our kits range from state-specific resources all the way to information on adaptive equipment, energy bill assistance, home and vehicle modifications, etc. These kits break down by organization and contact type so as to ease your efforts in connecting with the help and information you need.
- eBooks – Available through our Facebook Page or by calling our care team, our eBooks target common topics faced by the CP community and addresses them head-on. Whether discussing summer activities for children with Cerebral Palsy, camp options, support options for parents, cooking and nutrition, therapy options… each eBook looks to dive into the topic and make it easier for parents to understand and take action.
- Referrals – To be clear, MyChild does not provide referrals for medical needs or specific products. This is not due to a lack of passion in the area but because we simply do not have the resources to review and examine each and every business that might be a fit. However, our care team does actively ask and listen about the needs and challenges parents face and help where possible. When another program or organization is a better source of help, we are happy to connect parents with information on how to contact them. Ultimately, our goal is to break down walls and we are not worried about admitting where others may be able to help more than we can!
