New Year’s Resolutions are the worst, aren’t they? Born out of good intentions and a genuine interest to make the most out of a new year, they often start well and end badly. We all know someone, or you might even be that person who has a treadmill that’s being used as a clothes rack, or you may have heard of a gym membership that was used for two months and then ignored for the next ten months. As a leading resource for all things related to CP, we thought we would come up with four simple and easy Cerebral Palsy resolutions for our parents to consider during 2015.
One note before we start: Our goal with these Cerebral Palsy resolutions is not to provide medical advice or prescribe changes in how our families may think but, instead, offer fun concepts that parents can quickly absorb into their daily routines.
Without further ado, consider tackling one of these ideas as one (or more!) of our Cerebral Palsy resolutions for 2015:
- Find out how we can help! Contact our helpful team of agents today to find out what FREE Cerebral Palsy resolutions, kits and information we have available. You can do so by either submitting a request through our Facebook form, filling out our contact page on our website or by calling (800) 692-4453.
- Analyze what you and your child eat and consider change! Nutrition and general quality of food can have a real impact on a child’s physical growth and development. While going without McDonald’s may be on your friend’s list of Resolutions, we would recommend simply taking a step back and assessing where you can improve what you’re eating as a family. Check out our page dedicated to Nutritional Health if you’re interested in learning more about the impact food has on the bodies of children with Cerebral Palsy.
- Find out more about IEPs or revisit your child’s existing plan to see if it’s effective or accurate for his or her needs. Our Facebook audience recently expressed a lot of interest in the topic of Individual Education Programs after one of our updates and it’s a topic we plan to delve into further soon. For now, take a look at our site page discussing the different types of plans that can be developed and speak with one of your child’s teachers if you think an IEP may be the right course of action.
- Get active and speak out. Far too many parents feel alone in their journey. Join a support group in your area (you can contact us if you have trouble finding one or just want to save yourself time!) and share your experiences with other parents (perhaps on our Facebook Page?) Be outspoken about what you are going through, not only for the benefit of getting it off of your chest, but to also educate others who may be seeking information or an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by your experiences. We can and do inspire each other, everyday!
There are a variety of other ideas for Resolutions that you may plan to pursue and we’d like to hear about them if you’re comfortable sharing with us and our community. We simply hope that 2015 can be an amazing year for you and your family. Let us know if we can be of any help with these Cerebral Palsy resolutions or any other help that we may be able to provide in the new year!
